Weekend Fun Fueled by a Strawberry Chocolate Milkshake

This weekend was a whirlwind of activity.

We hiked.

I was mocking Alex for hiking with a latte until he pointed out that I was Instagramming. Irony for the win.

We found an old missile site at the top of the ridge we hiked. There was some neat graffiti.

We danced wearing birthday crowns for Allie’s birthday and welcome to SF.

Birthday girl on the left, Shelly on the right.

Me and Rachel.

The crowns were SO popular. So many people tried to steal them!

We played my new favorite card game, Cards Against Humanity (warning: this game is guaranteed to offend everyone but also hopefully make everyone laugh so hard they do a spit-take).

I organized my closet after going into the bowels of hell, aka IKEA. Photos coming soon!

We watched the Mad Men finale. Thoughts? Obviously last week’s episode was the climax, but despite the fact that it seemed like nothing happened, I enjoyed the episode. The New York Times has a great interview with Matthew Weiner. If you love Mad Men, it’s worth a read!

In order to fuel all of this activity, I knew we had to start the weekend right. Earlier this week, I made this strawberry banana milkshake from Green Kitchen Stories and proceeded to rave about it to anyone who would listen. Then I decided to chocolate it up, because when is chocolate a bad idea?

Strawberry Chocolate Shake

Serves 2

  • 10 strawberries, divided
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 banana, sliced and frozen
  • 5 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cocoa extract
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1.25 cups almond milk
  • 4 ice cubes

Put five strawberries in the bottom of each glass and muddle with a pinch of salt. Blend the remaining ingredients and pour over the strawberries.

Delicious enough to be dessert. Healthy enough to be breakfast. That’s my kind of shake. Plus, it kept us full through a 6 mile hike and a trip to IKEA, so it’d say it’s a winner.

The busy-ness continues throughout the week, so I may just have to make a few more!
